This is a list of all the books I've been reading over the twelve months of the year 2008.
I've listed the title in the language I've read the book, the author, the English title or a translation if necessary, my opinion as well as my rating of how much I liked the book (five stars are the best, one the worst).
Martin Langfield: Dämonium (The Malice Box)
rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
thoughts: It was a thrilling book alright, one where you just had to keep reading. Easy to read as well. But the whole concept of a box that could destroy the world rubbed me the wrong way a bit. But the chase and everything was truly gripping.
New Moon - Stephenie Meyer
rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
thoughts: Sad, so sad. It realy touches your heart and makes you feel the pain of Bella when she loses what she cherishes most. And then it takes another turn and you just can't put the book away, you have to keep reading to know what's going to happen next.
Eclipse - Stephenie Meyer
rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
thoughts: In contrast to the second of the series, this one wasn't sad mostly but rather thrilling and angsty. I don't know what it is about these book but I find myself unable to resist their pull. I just want to read, more and more, again and again. I just have to find out how it's all going to end this time.
Die Frau im Fahrstuhl (The Woman in the Elevator) - Helene Tursten
rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
thoughts: A really weird one that I simply don't know what to do with. A really really strange story.
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen
rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
thoughts: This is part of my attempt to read 'classics' of literature. I know this is loved by so many, especially females. It was nice and considering the time really modern and all but I never felt the need to put it on a pedestal above all other books.
Küsschen, Küsschen! (Kiss Kiss) - Roald Dahl
rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
thoughts: While I really like spooky/creepy stories, these were not really my kind of thing. Mostly, they just left a bad feeling in my stomach or made me feel quite queasy. Some were nice but mostly they were not what I expected.
Breaking Dawn - Stephenie Meyer
rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
thoughts: I went into this not having any expectations and all, and this approach never disappointed me. I thoroughly enjoyed the book from start to end. It made me smile, laugh and sigh. Some moments were quite cheesy, some unexpected. I never felt like something was taken from me or anything. And, there's a complete and total happy ending.
The Host - Stephenie Meyer
rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
thoughts: The beginning was a bit slow in a way but once it started to pick up, I couldn't put the book down again. The concept is just so... I would have never thought of coming up with something like this. Happy ending is all I'll say; I just can't do without those and it didn't really seem possible for this storyline.
Tödliches Sudoku (The Sudoku Murder) - Shelley Freydont
rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
thoughts: This is seriously one of the most boring books I've ever read. The best thing in there were the sudokus they had included for each chapter. But otherwise, just no. Nothing really happens and the solving of the murder at the last few pages was so very anti-climatic. After reading the last line, all I could think was, "That's it?"
Twilight - Stephenie Meyer
rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
thoughts: This is the first book I've ever re-read; I never before felt the desire to. But I just love this one so much. Sure, it's not the most brilliant writing but the story-telling is wonderful that's what matters to me. It's just such a (bitter)sweet and otherworldy story. Something you need to escape the reality from time to time. It won't be the last time I've picked it up.
Im Blutkreis () - Jérôme Delafosse
rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
thoughts: I can't really say that it was really good but it wasn't bad either. I just always felt like there was a piece missing to make it a really thrilling reading experience. It was confusing in parts and the ending was more than just a little weird.
The Historian - Elizabeth Kostova
rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
thoughts: It took me about half the book to get really into it. There was a lot of information of some kind, a lot to digest to get to the real story. In the end it did turn out to be a nice read after all with some nice twists and turns.
The Dante Club - Matthew Pearl
rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

New Moon - Stephenie Meyer
rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
thoughts: Sad, so sad. I can only repeat myself. After Twilight I, of course, had to re-read the second one in the series as well. And it's the same feelings all over.
