This is a list of all the books I've read over the twelve months of the year 2006. I know there aren't many but I'd been busy with finishing university and all. That didn't leave that much time for reading unfortunately.
I've listed the title in the language I've read the book, the author, the English title or a translation if necessary, my opinion as well as my rating of how much I liked the book (five stars are the best, one the worst).
Robert Craan: Geheimnisvolle Kultur der Traumzeit (The Mysterious Culture of the Dreamtime)
rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
thoughts: I read this one mainly for my diploma work, or rather read it again to check some things. I still found the topic utterly fascinating. The world of the aborigines of Australia (their knowledge and mythology, the Dreamtime, their beliefs and culture, etc.) is just so different from what we know.
Marion Zimmer Bradley: Die Nebel von Avalon (The Mists of Avalon)
rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
thoughts: I truly thought this would be a wonderful book seeing as this is one of the numerous available versions of the Arthurian legends, told from a woman's point of view. I was mostly wrong though. While the overall story was nice, it was just way too long. There was so much unnecessary blabla that I had trouble to keep reading.
Walter Moers: Die Stadt der träumenden Bücher (The City of Dreaming Books)
rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
thoughts: This is so totally weird but absolutely amazing at the same time. Totally for a booklover. It was so much fun reading this book, the unexpected things happening. You just can't help to keep wondering how the hell someone came up with this. I love it.
Elias Canetti: Die Stimmen von Marrakesch (The Voices of Marrakesh)
rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
thoughts: Maybe it's the fact that the whole thing happens 1950's but although it was an interesting experience, it never left me wanting more despite the fact that the book is quite short. It was just yeah okay, done.
Graham Greene: Der dritte Mann (The Third Man)
rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
thoughts: I don't know. I don't think I have seen the movie but even considering this novella is a preliminary draft of the screenplay/movie I don't know what to make of it.
Albert Camus: Die Pest (The Plague)
rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
thoughts: Despite the creepiness and partly difficult langue you want to keep reading. It was scary in a way with the look into the souls of human beings and their action when facing something like this.
